BILL BETHEL
Bill
has been in resort sales for 35 years.
After graduating from Arkansas State University in 1966,
Bill served in the Army in Military Intelligence. After
discharge, he worked for International Harvester and
later for Atlantic Richfield Oil Company.
In
1972, he went to work for
Wyndham-Fairfield at Wyndham-Fairfield Glade.
At the time, Wyndham-Fairfield was a developer of
resort, retirement communities with two resorts,
Wyndham-Fairfield
Bay and Glade. Around 1979, the company decided
to try this new thing called timeshare. Because very few
people had ever heard of timeshare, Bill and five other
Wyndham-Fairfield salespeople took off for Sanibel
Island, Florida, and begged the developer of Sanibel
Beach Club for a job to learn as much as possible about
this mysterious new concept.
As luck would have
it, the developer was
Keith Trobridge, often referred to as "The
Grandfather" of timesharing. Not only were they hired,
"The Tennessee" guys were privileged to attend one of
the first formal training programs in the timeshare
industry ,called Interval College.
In 1982, Bill
resigned from Wyndham-Fairfield, went home to Arkansas
and developed two resorts from the ground up,
The Wharf, and SunBay, both on Lake Hamilton
in Hot Springs. He bought the property, designed the
buildings, bought the furniture, hired and trained the
sales force, designed and implemented innovative
marketing programs that produced thousands of qualified
prospects and millions of dollars in sales. Bill took
over a third resort on Lake Hamilton, Southshore,
after the original developer suffered severe health
problems.
The Wharf (and later Sunbay)
were wildly successful from the beginning. A projected
four year sellout at The Wharf was accomplished in in
just two years. In the first three years at SunBay,
SunBay was ranked in the top 10 resorts in sales in the
entire worldwide network of Interval International
affiliated resorts.
Because of the astounding
success of the
Wharf and SunBay, Bill started a consulting
company and did start ups and sales training for many
new developers around the United States.
Bill
retired, got bored, and realizing the biggest need in
the Timeshare industry was a resale company that
did it the right way. Although he had his own ideas on
resale, he went to work for a large well known "Name
Brand" Resale company to see how other people were
doing it. He learned very quickly how not to do it
(about 2 weeks). Bill started a small company in 1990
that originally only handled sales at the resorts he
developed in Hot Springs.
He sold that business and founded Discount Timeshare
Resale in 2001 to specialize in Wyndham-Fairfield,
Bluegreen, Wyndham-Worldmark and all other Branson
Timeshare Resorts.
